Coral Reefs

They may look like plants, but corals are actually tiny animals that live in big groups in warm, shallow waters. Coral reefs have lots of busy visitors throughout the year – over 7,000 species of fish call coral reefs home, which is almost one-third of all fish species. Coral reefs are rare as it is, but pollution, the souvenir trade, boat anchors and divers that touch them threaten the health of our few corals reefs every day. To help protect corals safely dispose of chemicals, avoid buying coral products and support projects like Rescue the Reef (Nature.org).
